Product Description

Black Silicon Carbide

Black Silicon Carbide is the product of silicon quartz sand and petroleum coke electro fused at high temperature in an electrical resistance furnace. The grains of Black Silicon Carbide are hexagonal crystals that are extremely hard, sharp, friable, and high strength(at 1000℃, SiC is 7.5 stronger than Al2O3), and have outstanding electrical and thermal conductivity and low thermal expansion. 

Advantages of BSiC as refractory raw material:

1. Extremely high temperature resistance
The decomposition temperature of black silicon carbide is as high as 2600℃, making it suitable for extremely high temperature environments, such as steelmaking, ironmaking, glass melting furnaces, etc.

2. Excellent thermal shock resistance
Black silicon carbide has a low thermal expansion coefficient and high thermal conductivity, making it less likely to crack under rapid cooling and heating conditions.

3. Excellent resistance to chemical corrosion
Black silicon carbide has strong resistance to acidic and alkaline slag and molten metal (such as molten iron and molten aluminum), and performs well in environments such as steelmaking furnaces and aluminum electrolytic cells.

4. High mechanical strength and wear resistance
The Mohs hardness reaches 9.2, close to diamond, making it suitable for high wear environments such as cement rotary kilns, blast furnace tapping holes, etc.

Application

1. Bonded Abrasives: It is an ideal materials for Vitrified Grinding Wheels, Resin Grinding Wheels, Brake Pads/ Block, Frankfurt, Marble Polishing Stones, Oil Stones, Mounted Stones, Polishing Sticks.
2. Coated Abrasives: It is used to make coated abrasive products, such as sandpaper and are available in sheets, discs, rolls, belts, pads wheels and other forms.
3. Sandblasting / Polishing / Lapping: It is useful for grinding glass, removing mill scales and any other application where aggressive abrasives are required.
4. Refractories: furnace and incinerator linings, kiln furniture, fire bricks, refractory cement, electric heating elements, etc.
5. Anti Slip Pavement: Black Silicon Carbide can be used in the surface of out door pavement, which are heavily trafficked area that must provide traction or stand up to heavy wear, environmental stresses, weathering and slip resistance. Such as deck of the ship, highway speed bumps, airport runway.

6. Metallurgical: Steel plants use silicon carbide as an additive to molten metal to act as a source of carbide and silicon.

7. Wire Sawing: Precise silicon carbide powders are used in the cutting of silicon wafers. Silicon carbide is an excellent material for wire sawing silicon ingots into wafers for photovoltaic and semiconductor applications. 

8. Ceramic: High density and low porosity features make silicon carbide for high performance application, such as advanced or technical ceramic.
